Diwali

On 25th October, the staff in TTSPH Head Office celebrated Diwali – Festival of Lights. Diwali is a Hindu religious festival approximately five days long, and one of the most important festivals within Hinduism.

Diwali symbolises the triumph of good over evil, and celebrates the return of Lord Ram to the Ayodhya kingdom after a forteen year exile. The term Diwali is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘Deepavali’, with deepa meaning light and avali meaning series.

An important thing to note is that Diwali is not just about lights. Diwali is also about delicious sweets, beautiful decorations and gathering with familiy and friends.

The Diversity and Inclusion Committee held a Diwalli lunch for all staff with a spread of curries, fried rice and mixed snacks. Some staff also made homemade sweets for us all to enjoy after lunch. A number of staff also dressed up in sarees and traditional dress, which immersed us in the Hindu culture.
