Movember

This month, the staff in TTSPH Head Office participated in Movember. Movember is an event that takes place each year in November, involving the growing of moustaches to raise awareness of men’s health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men’s suicide.

Since 2003, Movember has supported and established more than 1,250 men’s health developments across the globe, with the primary focus of challenging the status quo, enhancing men’s health research and changing the way health services influence and support men.

To raise support and awareness for Movember, the Diversity and Inclusion Committee (D&I Committee) held a variety of activities throughout the month such as ‘Grow a Mo’, ‘Move for Movember’, and ‘Host a Mo-ment’.

A number of staff took part in ‘Grow a Mo’, growing a moustache to show their support, raise funds and create awareness for men’s health. It was nice to see everyone embracing their moustaches.

In addition to growing a moustache (and for those that could not grow a moustache), staff were given the opportunity to ‘Move for Movember’. Throughout the month of November, staff needed to run or walk a minimum of 60km. This 60km represents the 60 men we lose to suicide each hour, every hour across the world. All staff that partook in Move for Movember felt a great sense of accomplishment and fulfilment that they were able to create awareness for men’s health.

On Friday 18th November, the D&I Committee hosted a ‘Mo-ment’ in recognition of Movember. We went to a local rooftop café, enjoyed a delicious lunch and played some pool. While having lunch, all staff were updated on the progress of those growing moustaches, and informed who had walked the most kilometres thus far. Everyone had a great time and were reminded why they were participating in such a noteworthy event.
